Josh Allen is an American football player who plays in the National Football League as a quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. In 2020, he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl, and in the same year, he was named to the Second-team All-Pro.
Player Profile and High School Career
Joshua Patrick Allen was born on May 21, 1996, in Firebaugh, California. He stands 196 cm tall and the quarterback’s weight was last listed at 108 kg. He grew up on a farm in his hometown of Firebaugh, California. He attended the local high school.As a kid, he was a fan of Fresno State. His father tried to sell Allen to the scouts at Fresno State but they did not give him any offers. He also did not receive offers from other colleges. Sports pundits would later speculate that the lack of offers was due to Allen not being as well known and he had not attended any elite quarterback camps.
College and Professional Career
With no offers to choose from, he instead attended Reedley College where one of the assistant coaches was his cousin-in-law. He stayed with Reedley for a season before he was later signed to play for the University of Wyoming.Wyoming coach Craig Bohl pushed for Allen’s recruitment because he saw parallels between Allen and Carson Wentz, who later went on to be a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
He played for Wyoming from 2015 to 2017. In 2017, he was named the Most Valuable Player in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
In 2018, he was recruited into the NFL by the Buffalo Bills in the first round. He was the 7th overall pick in the draft. In July of that year, he signed a four-year contract with the team. He started the season as a backup to Nathan Peterman.
He became a starting quarterback in September after Peterman was benched. In Week 5, he suffered an elbow injury that saw him miss a couple of games. For the 2019 season, he was the starting opening day quarterback. In 2020, he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl. In the same year, he was also named to the Second-team All-Pro.
