Matt Breida is an American football running back for the National Football League’s New York Giants. He played football during his college years at Georgia Southern University. In 2017, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent. He has also played for Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills.

Matthew John Breida was born on February 28, 1995, in Brandon, Florida in the United States of America. His adoptive parents relocated to Spring Hill, North Tampa.

Breida attended Nature Coast Technical High School. Later, he committed to playing for Georgia Southern University. While three, he was twice named to the First-Team All-Sun Belt.

Career

Breida wasn’t invited to the National Football League Combine. Still, he performed well during his pro day, running a 4.38 40-yard dash. He recorded a 42-inch vertical jump and completed 23 reps on the Bench Press test. Matt Breida was signed with the San Francisco 49ers on May 4, 2017.

He was with the 49ers from the 2017 to 2019 season. On September 10, 2017, he had 4 rushes in this NFL debut season opening with a 23 to 3 home loss to Carolina Panthers. In 2018, Breida started the season as Moris’ backup. However, he outgained the veteran with 46 yards in a season-opening loss to Minnesota Vikings. In 2019, he entered the season as a co-starter alongside Tevin Coleman.

On April 25, 2020, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins during this year’s NFL Draft. On March 19, 2021, Breida signed with Buffalo Bills for a one-year contract. Used sparingly because of running backs Devin Singletary and Zach Moss, Breida only scored his first touchdowns with Buffalo Bills in Week 10 against New York Jets.

Breida played primarily on the special teams with 8 offensive snaps and had rushed the ball thrice for 28 yards and one touchdown, aside from catching 3 passes for 1 touchdown and 22 yards. On March 21, 2022, Matt Breida signed with New York Giants. As of the 2023 season, he continues to play for the Giants.
