Kurt Warner
Quarterback Kurtis Eugene Warner is a retired American football player who played his college ball for Northern Iowa. In 1994, the Green Bay Packers signed him as an undrafted free agent. He never made it to the roster. Leaving the league, he played in the arena football from 1995-1997.
Nicknamed as Kurt, he played for the arena Iowa Barnstormers (1995-1997) and then went to NFL Europe's Amsterdam Admirals (1998). In 1998, he signed a contract with the NFL's St. Louis Rams (1998-2003), leading them to two Super Bowls and one Super Bowl Victory. With Warner at the helm, the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV and the QB was chosen as the game MVP. He's been a two-time NFL MVP (1999, 2001) and a three-time Pro Bowl selection (1999, 2000, 2001). Warner suffered various injuries in his final few years with the Rams and, after being released by the team, inked a new deal with the New York Giants. After playing with them in 2004, Warner was signed by the Arizona Cardinals in 2005. He is presently their backup quarterback.
Warner, who has been in the league a decade, has played in 94 games, completing 65.1-percent of his passes for 24,008 yards. He has thrown 152 touchdown passes and 100 picks, earning a rating of 93.2. In 2007, with the Cardinals, the aging QB proved that he still had gas in the tank. That season he played in 14 games, throwing 451 passes and completing 281 (62.3-percent). He hit for 27 TDs and tossed 17 INTs. He accumulated 3,417 yards in the air, garnering a rating of 89.8. It was his fourth most productive season.
As a starter, Warner was often unstoppable, and as a backup he still has the touch. Warner, who is six-foot-two and 222 pounds, is now 37 years old. He is still a tough competitor, dependable leader and strong player. He sees the field well, can throw the long ball and possesses a quick release. He's not very good on his feet when trying to scramble, but the wily QB has good pocket presence and is able to find a target more times than not. His age and health have made him an unlikely starter but one of the best backups in the game.
