John Gruden has been the headman at Tampa Bay for seven years. In that time, he’s got a 50-51 record. Last season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were 9-7 without starting QB Chris Simms, who was out for the entire season. chris simms With Simms ailing, Jeff Garcia came in and played well.

Offense

QB Jeff Garcia (327 ATT, 209 COMP, 2,440 YDS, 13 INT, 4 INT), a nine-year veteran, offers consistency. He’ll be tested with a rushing squad and receiving unit that are both average. Wideout Joey Galloway (57 REC, 1,014 YDS, 17.8 AVG, 6 TDs), a standout, has had health problems. RB Warrick Dunn has been added to the rushing group with lead RB Cadillac Williams being questionable. The offensive line looks to be solid.

Defense

The Bucs’ defense was extremely sound last season. They ranked first against the pass and third in points allowed. The “D” was second in total defense and fourth in turnover ratio. LBs Barrett Ruud (114 tackles) and Derrick Brooks (109 tackles) were stoppers. With DB Brian Kelly going to the Lions, the secondary may be a bit weaker. But corners Eugene Wilson and Tanard Jackson are focused and knowledgeable. First-year corner Aqib Talib looks to make an immediate impact. The line is tough and commanding.

Special Teams

On special teams, Michael Spurlock is fine on returning kickoffs and rookie Dexter Jackson is a speedster. Punter Josh Bidwell is one of the best around. Placekicker Matt Bryant knows how to handle pressure.

Overview

Gruden, who likes to throw short and intermediate passes, is a conservative play caller. His likes to field a strong defense and this year he will have one. This veteran team could be in the post-season.
