The Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club is a leading community cricket club which is situated in Suffolk. It is associated with the England and Wales Cricket Board. It is said that children as young as six year olds would come and practice at the Victory ground. They would learn to play cricket and enjoy this game. This ground is situated in close proximity to the town center of the historic market town of Bury St. Edmunds.
The club offers lots of competitive leagues, cups and such friendly matches which suit all age groups with different levels of ability. Apart from this, some of the facilities offered here at the club are three cricket pitches, practice nets, county standard, two pavilions, a large bar inside a clubhouse catering to the facilities along with free car parking.
The club is supervised by the Management Committee which consists of some of the elected members of the team and is exclusively operated with the support of active members along with a few professional staff.
This club holds around fifty senior and fifty youth matches each season. It also receives around 1,000 players and guests. Some of the matches held here are ECB competition and county representative teams. This club has overall 150 members which includes forty senior players and 90 young aspiring cricketers. Practicing at the ground is provided to both men and women and also to young boys and girls.
Moreover, cricketers of all age groups and abilities are more encouraged to know their potential skills in different sports and also learn to contribute to the club. All of the players are provided with coaching facilities from a team of ECB qualified coaches. From under eleven to seniors, there are a list of competitive leagues and tournaments. These youth squads are at U11, U13 and U15 both for boys and girls. The senior levels are also there with four men’s teams. Three of them play during the Saturdays and the one team plays on Sundays.
The top team is the first XI which competes in the East Anglia Premier League. In 2005 and 2006, this team has won the league and finished in a runner-up position in 2008. The captain of the team is Justin Bishop who has played for the Essex and England team of under 19.
