Roy Gilchrist
Roy Gilchrist was a former West Indies player from Jamaica. He was part of 13 test matches and 42 first-class matches throughout his career. Gilchrist was known for his violent temper both on and off the field. He is infamous for deliberately over-stepping the bowling mark to deliver detrimental and injurious deliveries.
Gilchrist took 57 wickets from 13 test matches with an average of 26.68. He also took 167 first-class wickets from 42 matches. His bowling average for first-class matches was 26.00. Gilchrist has had the best bowling figures of 6 wickets for 55 runs for test matches and 6 wickets for 16 runs for first-class matches.
Once while playing at the Lancashire League, Gilchrist removed a stump from the playing area and struck the opposition batsman in his head. He was also one of the only four bowlers who have hit the sightscreen after a first bounce on the pitch. After his test career ended, Gilchrist took up playing at the Lancashire League and took 100 wickets per season.
He passed away in 2001 at the age of 67 in his native town of Jamaica. Gilchrist is survived by seven children.
