Vasant Tapu Harji Chavda was born in Tanganyika in Tanzania in 1936. Vasant was a Tanzanian cricketer. This left hand batsman and left arm fast – medium/left-arm orthodox spin bowler played the role of a all rounder in his cricket career.

Vasant played for the Tanzania national cricket team in the period from 1967 to 1974. He even played first class cricket for East Africa team. He played around 2 First class matches, scoring 96 runs, with a batting average of 24. He made one half century with highest score being 55. With right to bowling statistics, he bowled around 246 balls taking 8 wickets and an average of 21.12.

Vasant began his cricket career by playing in the international cricket in August 1967 against the Indian team. The first match was played for the Tanzania team held in Dar es Salaam and the second match he played was a first class match for the East African team held in Kampala. His best batting and bowling performances in the first class cricket was when he scored around 55 runs during the East Africa innings and took five for 72 in the first innings itself.

Later on, in 1969 and 1970, Vasant played in the East African Quadrangular tournament with triangular tournaments in 1971, 72 and 74. He even went on a tour to England with his East African team in 1972. His last match was played for the Tanzania team against Zambia team in 1974. Moreover, earlier that year, he also played his second and final first class match against the MCC team held in Nairobi. Vasant died in 1988.
