Rahatullah was a promising cricketer from Pakistan, best remembered for his potential as an all-rounder. Born on June 23, 1989, in Peshawar, he showcased his skills early in his career, representing the Pakistan under-19 team on tours to both Australia and India. Tragically, his journey was cut short when he was shot dead on February 11, 2008, en route to a match, leaving a void in the cricketing community.
Career
Rahatullah made his first-class debut in December 2007, playing against the Quetta Bears. During his brief stint in professional cricket, he participated in three matches within the prestigious Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, where he took 16 wickets and scored a total of just 5 runs, reflecting his role primarily as a bowler. His best bowling performance of 4 wickets for 57 runs highlighted his seam bowling capabilities, earning him respect among his peers.Unfortunately, his career was abruptly halted just as it was beginning to flourish. On that fateful day in 2008, he was headed to the Arbab Niaz Stadium to join the North West Frontier Province squad when he fell victim to an act of violence that shocked the cricket world.
Legacy
Following his untimely death, condolences poured in from across the cricketing fraternity, including from the PCB chairman, Nasim Ashraf, who reached out to Rahatullah's family. In recognition of his potential and the loss suffered, the cricket board provided financial assistance to his family, ensuring that they were supported in the aftermath of this tragedy.Rahatullah's story serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by athletes in regions plagued by violence.
