Azhar Mahmood Sagar is a right handed batsman and right arm fast medium bowler who plays for Pakistan Cricket team. The other teams for which he has played are Marylebone Cricket club, Lahore Badshahs, Kent and Islamabad Cricket Association. Recently, at the IPL players auction, Azhar was bought by Kings XI Punjab to play at the IPL 5 season 2012.

Mahmood debuted in One day cricket on 16th September 1996 at Toronto against India. In this match, he scored 6 runs in 11 deliveries and was caught by Joshi off the bowling of Prasad. He bowled 4 overs, none of which were maiden, and conceded 19 runs without taking any wicket. India won this match by 8 wickets. On 6th October 1997, Mahmood played his first Test match at Rawalpindi against South Africa. In the 1st innings, he remained unbeaten on 128, inclusive of 11 boundaries and 1 sixer. He bowled 27 overs, of which 1 was maiden, conceded 74 runs and took 2 wickets. In the 2nd innings, he remained unbeaten on 50 in 96 deliveries. The match was drawn.
