A very prolific opening batsman of the West Indies cricket team is the description of Desmond Haynes. Along with Gordon Greenidge he shared sixteen century partnerships in Test cricket out of which four were double century stands.

Of special mention are his innings of 75 and 143 in 1989 at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Australia.

Haynes has played overall 116 Test matches in which he could score 7487 runs at an average of 42.29 and which included 18 centuries and 39 half centuries. His highest score was 184 and he has taken 65 catches.

In One day International matches he has participated in 238 matches and in these has piled up 8648 runs that are comprised of 17 centuries and 57 half centuries at an average of 41.37. He has top scored with an unbeaten 152 and has taken 59 catches.
