Rohit Gurunath Sharma is a right handed middle order batsman and a right arm offbreak bowler with the India cricket team. He has also played cricket for the India A, India Under-19s, Mumbai, India Green, Mumbai Under-19s, Mumbai Cricket Association President’s XI and the Deccan Chargers. At a recent IPL auction, Rohit was bought by the Mumbai Indians team to play for the IPL 5 season 2012.

Rohit Sharma started playing first class cricket in 2006. He made his debut in International cricket in a One day International match against Ireland at Belfast in 2007. Sharma however did not need to come at bat as the openers Sourav Ganguly and Gambhir chased down the easy target of 171 runs and won the match by 9 wickets. Sharma has yet to play any test matches. He however debuted in Twenty20 matches the same year in a match against England at Durban. Sharma once again remained unfortunate for his debut and did not come to bat as India won the match by 18 runs. Rohit was accompanied by Joginder Sharma who was also debuting in Twenty20 for the Indian team.

In 2007, playing for the ICC World Twenty20 Cup, Sharma scored 50 runs not out and helped India win a match against South Africa which won him the Man of the Match. In 2008, Sharma was bought by the Deccan Chargers of the Indian Premier League.

In a total of 80 One day International matches, Sharma has scored 1961 runs with a high score of 114 runs and a strike rate of 78.85. He also has a total of 2584 runs at a strike rate of 131.10 in the 105 Twenty20 International matches that he has played.
