Darren Julius Garvey Sammy aka Darren Sammy is an all rounder right handed batsman and a right arm fast medium bowler with the West Indies cricket team. He has also played for major teams like the Northern Windward Islands, University of West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI, St Lucia and Windward Islands cricket teams.
Darren Sammy started playing first class cricket since 2002. He made his debut in International cricket in a One Day International match against New Zealand at Southampton in 2004. Unfortunately the match was abandoned with the toss.
Sammy made his debut in test cricket against England at Manchester in 2007. He bowled 17 overs in the first innings and claimed the wicket of AN Cook giving away 32 runs. He could only score a run before he was caught out by Collingwood off a ball by Panesar in the first innings. In the second innings, Sammy claimed an astounding 7 wickets and gave away just 66 runs in the 21.3 overs he bowled. He also hit 5 boundaries and scored 25 runs in 60 balls before getting caught and bowled by Panesar. England however, won the match by 60 runs and Panesar was named the Player of the match.
