Murali Kartik is a professional Indian cricketer who plays for the Indian national cricket team. He is a slow left arm spinner who is well known for his slow looping deliveries that have confused many batsmen. He is also a left handed down the order batsman. Presently, he is part of the Pune Warriors team to play at the IPL 5 season 2012.
In the initial years of his career, Kartik was a medium pace bowler but overs the years developed as a spin bowler. In the domestic level of cricket Kartik played his first ever first class match representing the Central Railways team in the Ranji Trophy in 1996-97 season. He was successful in taking a hat trick in his very first game against Vidarbha. He finished the season at an average of 19.37 taking 16 wickets.
Because of his remarkable performances at the Ranji trophy tournament Kartik was selected for the Indian national team in the year 2000. He played test matches as well as one day matches for the team against South Africa. He was a substitute bowler for Harbhajan Singh who was out with an injury. Kartik’s performances were well above average. He took 6 wickets at an average of 33.5.

In the year 2001, Kartik was down with severe back injury which forced him to stay out of the team for almost the whole season. Although Kartik did well in the 2002 ODI series hosted by the West Indies, he was not included in the 2003 World Cup. He also did not make to the test squad till 2004.
In the 2004 tour to Australia, Kartik was once again selected in place of the injured Harbhajan Singh. However he did not perform well and was fired by the Australian Batsmen. He only took 1 wicket giving 211 runs. In 2007 Kartik again managed to get into the ODI team with good performances here and there. He took 6/27 in a victory against Australia. Later he could not keep up to good form and was left out of the side. After this Kartik has not made his place in the Indian side till now.
In the late 2007 season Kartik made a decision to play in County cricket. He was signed by the Middlesex county cricket club. He was a part of the winning squad for Middlesex in 2008. He is the only player to play in the Opening season of the Indian Premier League as well as the Stanford 20/20 Tournament.
Murali Kartik has been pulled from Kolkata Knight Riders to Pune Warriors of Sahara.He is very well versed with the art of bowling in the slog overs and containing the batsmen. Here as a spinner in the new Pune Team he will get a better opportunity at the IPL 2011.
