Simon Mathew Katich is a professional cricketer who plays for the Australian national cricket team. He is left handed batsman and a slow left arm Chinaman bowler. In the 1996-97 season Katich made his debut for the Western Australia state team.
Katich made his international debut in 2001 in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. On the Ashes tour of England in 2001 Katich made his Test debut. As Steve Waugh retired in 2004 Katich confirmed his position in the Australian team. Among his Test batting performances the best was in January 2004 against India at Sydney when he scored 125 and an unbeaten 77 and as a result Australia could save the Test, series and the unbeaten record of a decade at home.
In March 2005 while playing against New Zealand he scored 118 runs. However later in that year he had an unmemorable Ashes tour of England. The 2006 DLF cup was a disappointing season for Katich. Further he was replaced in the team by Shane Watson by whom Ponting was impressed due to the attacking strategy against India and West Indies. For the World Cup in the West Indies Katich was not chosen in the 15 men team. Till date Katich has taken part in 45 One Day Internationals.
In the year 2008 Katich also participated in the Indian Premier League where he represented the Kings XI Punjab.
