It is time for the teams in Champions League to buckle up as there is no more room for any further letups. It is time for the semi-finals with Delhi Daredevils facing Highveld Lions on Thursday in Durban.
With an eye on the big prize money for finals day, both teams will be eager as well as anxious for the match tomorrow.
Delhi Daredevils have an IPL history that matches New Zealand’s at the international level - three entries to the knock-out round and failing to win even one. From the four Indian teams that came to the Champions League, they are the only hope remaining and are bound to attract plenty of support.
One of the problems they have faced though is of insufficient action on the field with two matches washed out. But the other two wins were quite clinical and they would be hoping for a repeat.
The team combination is also one to make other sides jealous and Morne Morkel has exploited the favorable conditions exceedingly well. In addition, Virender Sehwag’s return to form is a welcome sign.
At the other side of the table are one of the two South African teams. Highveld Lions qualified easily with three wins and the only loss coming against Sydney Sixers. The home crowd is hoping for a go at the glory with both South African teams in the semi-finals.
Overall, the Alviro Peterson-led side has managed itself quite well and lived up to its strengths.
They may once again look to chase a total not only because of a rain threat but also due to the fact that they seem to have mastered the art. Neil McKenzie has been the anchor in two of those wins while Quinton de Kock, Gulam Bodi and Jean Symes have played a valuable role as well.
In the bowling department, the surprise element comes from Aaron Phangiso whose slow left-arm bowling has been difficult for the batsmen to score freely of.
The match starts at 5.30pm local time.
