The hunt for the winner of the inaugural season of the Sri Lankan Premier League has narrowed down to four teams with the semi-finals being played.

The second semi-final will be played on Wednesday between Kandurata Warriors and Nagenahira Nagas.

The two sides featured in different matches on the opening day, and ended with contrasting results. With one team to go through, same will be the story on Tuesday.

Kanudrata Warriors finished the league stage with seven points, after winning three matches and one rained off while two matches lost.

Their rain washout gave them the entry into the knock outs but the team will be aware of the challenge that awaits them against Nagenahira. Sanath Jayasuriya, the captain, also has a few changes to make following the departure of key Pakistani players.

The biggest blow would be Sohail Tanvir’s absence as the left-arm all-rounder was leading the wickets tally with 11 wickets.

Moreover, it is the batting that has remained a constant worry for them but Scott Styris could make a comeback. Chris Lynn impressed in his only appearance so far with a breathtaking 80.

Nagenahira Nagas are considered one of the stronger teams in the tournament and, unsurprisingly, finished second on the points table with eight points.

Their defeats came against the high-flying Wayamba United and, in the inconsequential match, against Uthura Rudras. Imran Nazir has given them brisk starts while Angelo Mathews has made the most runs for the team.

The overall combination looks balanced as Ajantha Mendis and Shaminda Eranga possess the talent to trouble the opposition batsmen.

Travis Birt and Ahmad Shahzad have been their major disappointments but their unpredictable nature makes them difficult to rule out as possible dangers.

The match will start at 8pm with Nagenahira taking the field as firm favorites. In their earlier meeting, Nagas chased down the 160-run target with three balls to spare.
