Pakistan defeated the West Indies in the second One day International at Abu Dhabi on 14th November 2008 and clinched the series. While chasing the score of 232 of Pakistan, the West Indies were all out for 208.
Every bowler from Pakistan played an impressive role and contributed to the excellent bowling performance of the team. However, the star performer for Pakistan was Sohail Tanvir. His opening spell enabled his team to stage a fightback as there was a less than average total while facing a disciplined West Indies attack. Umar Gul mesmerized the West Indies batsman by a combination of yorkers and bouncers. Iftikar Anjum was successful in retaining the ball close to the off stump and he was a bit unfortunate to get just one wicket. Shahid Afridi used all his experience to send Ramnaresh Sarwan back to the pavilion and this was a very crucial wicket for Pakistan. The West Indies batsmen were puzzled by the doosras bowled by Saeed Ajmal.
Initially, Chris Gayle failed to judge the direction in which the ball was moving and on the last delivery of the first over he was clean bowled by an overpitched inswinger from Tanvir. Sewnarine Chattergoon edged a delivery moving away from him to the wicketkeeper off the bowling of Tanvir. At this juncture, Shivnarine Chanderpaul came to the crease and remained unbeaten till the end. He survived a run out appeal, a couple of dropped catches and some close leg before wicket appeals. Chanderpaul was ably assisted by Ramnaresh Sarwan who was dismissed by a quicker delivery from Shahid Afridi. Further, Shawn Findlay and Xavier Marshall were run out when they desired a single, but were sent back by Chanderpaul. The remaining batsmen could not support Chanderpaul and got out cheaply.
