India defeated Australia by 2-0 in the Test series and won the Border-Gavaskar trophy. In the fourth Test match, Australia was bowled out by India for 209 runs and consequently, India won by 172 runs. The captain of the Indian side, Mahendra Singh Dhoni won his consecutive third Test match. 
Simon Katich attempted the horizontal shot some times and once reached the deep square-leg boundary. However, he frequently tried to hit a short ball across to the on side. He made a mistake while playing Ishant Sharma and Dhoni’s eyes were glued to the swirling ball. Australia had lost their first wicket for 29 runs.
When Zaheer Khan bowled his first delivery to Ricky Ponting, he was squared up on the back foot and there was an edge which was not carried to Rahul Dravid at first slip. Further, Ponting displayed a classy on-drive. Then, when he started off for a very ambitious single, Amit Mishra charged in from mid-off and with an exemplary underarm pick-up and fling uprooted the stumps. At this stage, Australia had lost 2 wickets for 37 runs.
When Ishant Sharma bowled to Michael Clarke, the ball reached his left pad. The replays are evidence that it would have hit the leg stump. However, umpire Billy Bowden did not accept that Clarke was leg before wicket and this left Sharma astonished. Zaheer Khan was not very happy when in a space of his three deliveries, the batsman edged two times wide of second slip. Hayden attempted to score off each delivery when the new ball was used and he guided the ball through the slips. When Hayden was on 30, India did not grab a good chance to dismiss him. Hayden tried to cut the second delivery of Harbhajan Singh for a boundary and a regulation edge was dropped by Dhoni.
Clarke was dismissed by Sharma on a beautiful delivery having perfect line and length, when his score was 22. At this stage, the Aussies were 82 for 3 wickets. When Hayden was on 36, he attempted a powerful reverse sweep and was dropped by Dravid at slip. Thereafter, Hayden found form and exhibited some potent sweeps and adroit reverse-sweeps. The Aussie run rate was more than 5 per over. A topspinner of almost perfect length was bowled by Mishra to Michael Hussey and there was an edge to Dravid at slip which he held correctly to send Hussey back to the pavilion. When Hayden had struck a boundary to midwicket, Harbhajan Singh bowled an airy and turning delivery which trapped Hayden leg before wicket.
Brad Haddin gave a catch to Sachin Tendulkar at mid-off off the bowling of Mishra. This was Sachin’s 100th Test catch. Shane Watson was caught by Dhoni off the bowling of Harbhajan for nine. Further, Dhoni stumped Jason Krejza off the bowling of Mishra. Brett Lee gave an edge to short leg off the bowling of Harbhajan.
