Dirty Fighting

In boxing, Dirty Fighting refers to the use of illegal tactics to gain an unfair advantage over an opponent.

These techniques violate the rules of the sport and are considered unsportsmanlike. Dirty fighting tactics include:

- Head butting: Intentionally striking an opponent with the head
- Slaps: Using open-handed strikes instead of closed fists
- Thumb gouges: Targeting an opponent's eyes with the thumbs
- Shoulder butts: Using the shoulder to strike an opponent
- Excessive clinching: Holding an opponent to prevent them from fighting

Other dirty tactics may include elbow strikes, stepping on an opponent's feet, rabbit punching (hitting the back of the head), and using the forearm to push or strike.

Some fighters also exploit referee blind spots to execute illegal moves without getting caught.

Several well-known boxers have been accused of using dirty tactics throughout boxing history.

These include Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Felix Trinidad, Jack Dempsey, and Bernard Hopkins.

Other notable fighters known for dirty tactics include Fritzie Zivic, Billy Smith, Antonio Margarito, and Sandy Saddler.

Referees are responsible for identifying and penalizing dirty fighting.

Depending on the severity and frequency of the infractions, penalties can range from warnings to point deductions or even disqualification. The use of dirty tactics not only violates the rules of boxing but also goes against the spirit of fair competition and sportsmanship that the sport aims to uphold.
