Daisuke Naito
After 4 bouts with previous WBC flyweight holder, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, Daisuke Naito finally earned and defended the WBC flyweight title. Debuting in the professional boxing arena in the year 1996, Naito definitely has the experience to defend his championship from future title matches. This esteemed Japanese boxer might have experienced some disappointments in his boxing career; it still wasn’t enough to stop him from going for gold.
Standing at 5 feet, 4 inches, you can find Daisuke Naito in the flyweight division. He is currently rated number three out of 573 with the rating still rising. Though Naito debuted in 1996, it wasn’t until the year 2001 that he fought his first title match against Takefumi Sakata for the Japanese flyweight title. In 2002, Daisuke Naito went for the WBC flyweight title against Pongsaklek Wonjongkam but ended in disappointment. During the fight with Wonjongkam and only 34 seconds into the game, Naito was instantly knocked out, losing the game and losing the chance at the WBC flyweight title.
Naito was able to rise again from the embarrassment of the title match against Wonjongkam by defeating Takeyuki Kojima for the Japanese flyweight title in 2004. Kojima was knocked out twice ending the game at only 24 seconds. Not to be deterred, Naito pursued Wonjongkam for the WBC flyweight title again in 2005 but lost again. Finally, after the third rematch with Wonjongkam in 2007, Naito emerged victorious being hailed the new WBC flyweight champion. Recently, there has a rematch between the two boxers last March 2008. The game ended in a draw with Naito hailed as the victor. Now, there could possibly be another encounter scheduled for Naito and Wonjongkam.
