Joshua Clottey
Joshua Clottey is a professional boxer from Accra, Ghana, who fights in the Welterweight division. He was born on March 16, 1976 in Accra, Ghana, but he currently resides in the Bronx, New York. He is best known in the boxing world as a former IBF Welterweight Champion, as well as the next opponent by Manny Pacquiao.
Clottey has earned the nicknames “The Hitter” and “The Grand Master,” and he rose to fame by winning his first twenty successive fights. These fights included 14 victories via knockout, and due to his performance, he was set to fight Carlos Baldomir, in an attempt to take away Baldomir’s WBC International Welterweight title. Unfortunately, Clottey lost the match due to disqualification from the huge controversial fight. He was actually winning the fight way until the 10th round, but he was penalized with two points deduction for an intentional head butt. He did receive a warning from the referee for leading with his head, but he did not heed the warning and did it again.
Despite the defeat, Clottey bounced up from the loss and won the African Boxing Union title in the Welterweight division by his next fight. He then added 10 fights straight wins onto his pile of achievements, and won his very first fight on American soil. He then proceeded to capture more welterweight titles as well as some middleweight ones.
Throughout his career, Clottey has fought in 39 fights with 35 wins, 20 of which were won via knockout. He has 3 losses and one fight that was declared “No contest”.
