Born on September 7, 1971, in Inglewood, California, Shane Donte Mosley is a professional boxer who is the current WBA Welterweight Super Champion. He was first brought in to a boxing ring by his father at the age of eight, and spent his high school years competing, forming an illustrious amateur career before turning pro in 1993, with his father as his trainer.

One of Mosley’s most illustrious wins was against Oscar de la Hoya for the Welterweight title which he entered as an underdog but emerged the victor after 12 rounds. His next most notable fight came against former Olympian Vernon Forrest. He lost to Forrest and he also lost the rematch a few months later in Indiana.

He faced de la Hoya again in 2003, this time going after de la Hoya’s WBC and WBA light middleweight belts and defeated de la Hoya with a unanimous decision after 12 close rounds. This win propelled him to the ranks of elite boxers who reign over three or more divisions.

In 2009, Mosley went against Margarito, and was predicted to lose because of his age and Margarito’s previous win over Miguel Cotto a few months back, proved the bookies wrong by pummeling Margarito and winning the match with a TKO.

Aside from boxing Mosley also devotes his time to charitable causes, once spending time with shoppers at Fontana, California auto center to raise funds for the Women’s Information Network Against Breast Cancer. He has also participated in the Make a Wish program, a foundation that seeks to make the wishes of sick and terminally ill children come true.

Mosley was given the Boxing Writers Association Fighter of the Year award in 1998.

In 2010, Mosley went against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in a match that was anticipated by fans for around 10 years. Unfortunately Mosley was not able to cut Mayweather’s winning streak, and was soon defeated. Later that month, Mosley’s WBA super welterweight title was stripped from him.

As of 2011, Mosley has a record of 55 total fights with 46 wins, 39 via knock out and 7 losses. He was also able to face Manny Pacquiao in May 2011.
