Seigo Akui was born on September 3, 1995, in Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan. The Japanese fighter is 163 cm tall and has a wingspan of 168 cm.

He has competed in the Flyweight division for the majority of his career. He fights from an orthodox position and adopted the middle name "Yuri" as a homage to former world champion Yuri Arbachakov. He is known for balancing his boxing career with work as a university staff member in Okayama.

Career

Akui began his professional campaign in April 2014. He captured the Japanese Flyweight Title in October 2019 by stopping Shun Kosaka and successfully defended the regional belt three times.

In January 2024, Akui achieved world championship status by defeating the long-reigning Artem Dalakian via unanimous decision to win the WBA Flyweight Title. He successfully defended the title against Taku Kuwahara and Thananchai Charunphak in 2024.

His title reign ended in March 2025 in a high-profile unification bout against WBC champion Kenshiro Teraji. Despite a competitive performance, Akui was stopped in the 12th round by TKO, losing his WBA belt in Tokyo.
