Kazuto Ioka was born on March 24, 1989, in Sakai, Osaka, Japan. He fights from an orthodox position and is known for his technical mastery and body punching. He comes from a boxing family; his uncle is former two-weight world champion, Hiroki Ioka.
Career
Ioka began his professional campaign in April 2009. He became a World Champion in only his seventh pro fight, stopping Oleydong Sithsamerchai to win the WBC Mini-Flyweight Title in 2011. He unified the division by defeating WBA Champion Akira Yaegashi in 2012.He continued his historic run by capturing the WBA (Regular) Light Flyweight Title in 2012 and the WBA Flyweight Title in 2015, becoming a three-division champion. In 2019, he became the first Japanese boxer to win world titles in four weight classes by stopping Aston Palicte for the WBO Super Flyweight Belt.
His career is also defined by a rivalry with Joshua Franco. After a majority draw in their 2022 unification bout, Ioka defeated Franco by unanimous decision in their 2023 rematch to win the WBA Super Flyweight Title. He defended this title until July 2024, when he lost a unification bout to Fernando Martinez.
