In August 2018, he defeated Ryosuke Iwasa by unanimous decision in Tokyo to win the IBF Super Bantamweight Title. He lost the title in his second defense, a 2019 unification rivalry with WBA Champion Daniel Roman, by majority decision.
Since then, he has challenged for several world titles, suffering losses to Michael Conlan (2021), Sam Goodman (2023), Naoya Inoue (2024), and most recently, Nick Ball (2025) for the WBA Featherweight Title.
