Jessica Rakoczy

The Canadian boxer born in Hamilton, Ontario and born on April 14, 1977 is known in women boxing as “Ragin”. Jessica Rakoczy, in real life, grew up surviving alone. Her mother died when she was in her teens and her father was absent all her life. She claimed that her experience built her the strength that is needed as an athlete. She competed in baseball, hockey, soccer, football, swimming, and track and field. She was, in fact, voted as the Athlete of the Year twice.

Her schoolmates were not at all surprised when she took boxing seriously as her sports career. She was known to be the aggressive type. She began to get into boxing when she was 20 years old and immediately competed in amateur events, both local and provincial levels, for two years in Canada.

In 1998, Jessica won her first two matches at the Ontario championships in St. Catharines. She advanced to earn the Bantamweight title at the provincial level after winning over to a more experienced boxer with a unanimous decision.

Jessica was able to join the Canadian national boxing team. Unfortunately, her injuries suffered from a car accident hindered her from joining competitions. Her second chance to join the team was again prevented when she broke a wrist during her sparring session with a partner.

Marty McSorley offered his financial support when he saw Jessica’s great potential in the sport. From there she kicked off her professional boxing career. She made her debut when she competed in October 21, 2000 in Philadelphia, Mississippi. She won over winless Pamela Sepulvado of Shreveport, Louisiana with a first round knock-out.

From 2000 to 2002, Jessica had series of wins and mostly by unanimous decisions. However, in 2007 Jessica was defeated by Ann Marie Saccurato for the WBC Lightweight title. In 2008, Jessica won over Belinda Laracuente by a unanimous decision in the 10th round gaining her professional record of 28-3-0 with 11 knockouts.
