Fernando Montiel
There is very good reason as to why Fernando Montiel is a very much talked about boxer, one in a few all over the world. Fernando Montiel, at only the age of 31, has been said to box like none other than the great Muhammad Ali. These two boxers had something in common, their boxing style. Not only do they use great technique and speed, they also use strategy and quick-thinking in taking out every opponent they are up against.
Any boxing enthusiast can tell apart Fernando Montiel from any player on the ring based on his boxing style. He uses quick reflexes and agility. He throws accurate and strong blows to his opponents. He is even said to be a “thinking fighter” because he combines mentality with natural boxing instincts to take down his opponents.
Montiel was first considered in the Flyweight boxing division. It was in this division that he was able to win the WBO Flyweight championship, the first for his promising career. After winning that title, he defended it superbly three times before moving on to the Super Flyweight division.
As a boxer in the Super Flyweight division, Montiel found himself against Pedro Alcazar for the WBO Super Flyweight title. It was a well-deserved win for Montiel. He defended the title successfully against Roy Doliguez but unfortunately lost it in one of his title defense matches with boxer, Mark Johnson. However, the loss was to be short-lived as he regained the title again by defeating Ivan Hernandez.
On May 31, 2008 Montiel successfully defended his Super Flyweight title for the eighth time against Luis Maldonado.
With a total of 48 fights, he has managed to win 44 of them with 34 through knockouts and only 2 losses and 2 draws. In 2009, Montiel acquired the WBO bantamweight title after he moved up in weight divisions. A year later, Montiel went against Hozumi Hasegawa and defeated the Japanese, winning the WBC bantamweight title, thus unifying the WBO and WBC bantamweight titles.
