The Marshall Thundering Herd is a men’s basketball team which participated on behalf of the Marshall University at the Conference USA and is a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division I program. The team is based in West Virginia in USA and plays their home games at the Cam Henderson Centre which can seat 9,600 spectators at a time. The team uniform is made up of the colors Kelly Green and White.

The current coach, Donnie Jones is into his third year as a head coach and is the one who led the team to a 16-14 record in his debut season. The legendary coach, Cam Henderson joined the program in 1935 and by the time he left in 1955, he had helped the team win 358 games while losing just 158 ones. Continuing with the winning streak, the team won 35 home games, one National Association for Intercollegiate Basketball title.

In 1967, Ellis Johnson coached the team and led them to the NIT (National Invitation Tournament) Final Four. From the 1983-84 till the 1988-89 seasons, the team was coached under Rick Huckabay and made three trips to the NCAA tournament and also got a berth at the NIT along with four Southern Conference titles.

Greg White joined the program in 1996-97 season and led his freshman team to the school’s debut conference title in his second year as a coach. While also successfully led the team into the finals of the SC Tournament game for the 1996-97 season. The team lost the title in the ending moments to the UT-Chattanooga.

Major Achievements

The team has won three Conference tournament titles.

They have also appeared for the NCAA Tournament championship five times.
