South Carolina Gamecocks
The South Carolina Gamecocks represent the University of South Carolina and participates at the Southeastern Conference. The team plays their home games at the Colonial Life Arena that can seat 18,000 spectators at a time. Currently Darrin Horn is serving as the head coach for the team and is into his second year as a coach.
As a member of the Southern Conference, South Carolina achieved notable success during its tenure and was a regular at winning the season championships. In 1965 Frank McGuire joined the team as a head coach and helped the team soar to never before heights of successes. The Gamecocks excelled in their performances and emerged undefeated and victorious at the 1970 ACC regular season. They also appeared for three consecutive Sweet 16s and an ACC Tournament championship for 1971.
In 1983, the University had a split with the ACC and joined the Metro Conference for a while. Again in 1992, the program signed up to the SEC (Southeastern Conference) and posted a 20-35 record for the season 1992-93. The program appointed Eddie Fofler as the head coach in 1994 who led the team into posting a 66-28 record from 1996 till 1998. During this time, they also won the first SEC championship title ever.
After Forler retired in 2001, Dave Odom steeped into his shoes and his tenure with the program saw him take the team into two consecutive NIT (National Invitation Tournament) championships in 2005 and 2006.
Major Achievements
The team has made 3 NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances. They have also made a total of 8 NCAA Tournament appearances.
The team has won a Southern Conference tournament championship in 1993 and a Atlantic Coast conference championship in 1971.
They have also won 4 Southern Conference regular season titles, 1 Atlantic Coast regular season title, 1 SEC regular season title and 2 SEC East regular season title.
