Career

Charel's basketball journey began at Monessen High School, where she crafted a remarkable legacy as the second-highest scorer in Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) history. By the time she graduated, she accumulated an impressive 3,110 points, placing her fifth all-time in Pennsylvania state history. Her senior season was particularly notable as she led her team to a Class A state title while averaging 26.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

Following high school, Charel continued her pursuit of excellence at the University of Notre Dame, where she played for the Fighting Irish from 2004 to 2008. Under the guidance of coach Muffet McGraw, she transitioned from a bench player to a crucial starter by her junior year, fully showcasing her talents. In her senior season, she was a standout performer, averaging 15.1 points and becoming the first Notre Dame women's basketball player to achieve over 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists, and 200 steals in a career.
