Allen faces No-Game No-Pay

On the SpotThe Boston Celtics’ star shooting guard, Ray Allen was handed a one-match suspension without pay after he elbowed Anderson Varejao of the Cleveland Cavaliers>. In a heated encounter, Allen reacted to some tough defense by elbowing Varejao in the groin.

After reviewing replays of the incident, the NBA’s Basketball Operations decided that the move was intentional and intended at causing harm to Varejao. Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, announced that Allen would be required to sit out the next game and not get paid either.

The Celtics lost the game 107-76 at the Quicken Loans Arena and the incident occurred with 5.05 remaining on the clock, in the third quarter. The suspension will mean that Allen will be left home as his teammates travel to Philadelphia to face the 76ers at the Wachovia Center.
