In the same season, he signed up as a free agent with the Washington Wizards and played for them for two seasons. He was part of the Orlando Magic team as they went in to finish their worst season ever with a record of 21-61 in the 2003-04 season. The next season, he was traded by the Magic to the Houston Rockets. Houston were not able to give Lue more minutes to play as they already had several point guards in the team. Mid-season, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks who had him for four seasons. Yet again, he led the Hawks to the worst record in NBA that season, and also for the franchise’s history with 13-69. In 2008, he was acquired by the Sacramento Kings and later waived off in the same season. He joined the Dallas Maverics after clearing the waivers and later signed up with the Milwaukee Bucks for a 2-year contract. As the final trade in his professional career, he was traded to the Orlando Magic.
