Nkolika Anosike is an accomplished professional basketball player currently making waves in the WNBA, where she plays the center position for the Minnesota Lynx. Born on February 27, 1986, in Brooklyn, New York, Nkolika, often affectionately referred to as Nicky, has Nigerian roots thanks to her mother, Ngozi Anosike, who emigrated from Nigeria.
Growing up in the West Brighton housing projects on Staten Island, Nicky's basketball talent became evident early on. During her senior year at St. Peter's for Girls, her family relocated to New Jersey, but she continued her education at St. Peter's, showcasing her commitment to both her academics and athletics.
Standing tall at 6'4", Nicky earned significant recognition during her high school career, being named to the Parade Magazine Second Team All-America in 2003 and 2004 and earning a spot on the McDonald's All-America team in 2004. This early success laid a solid foundation for her future in the sport.
Nkolika went on to attend the University of Tennessee, where she pursued a major in sociology/criminal justice, along with minors in political science and legal studies. Under the guidance of the legendary coach Pat Summitt, she became a key player for the Lady Volunteers. Over her four years at Tennessee, Nicky joined an elite group of players, becoming one of only four Lady Vols to achieve over 600 points, 500 rebounds, 100 blocks, 100 steals, and 125 assists.
In 2008, Nkolika's hard work culminated in her being selected as the 16th overall pick in the WNBA Draft, where she was the second choice in the second round, following her teammate Shannon Bobbitt. Since then, she has continued to carve out a notable career in professional basketball, making her mark in the league with both her skills and her dedication to the game.
