Randy Allen's professional career began in 1987 with the Tampa Bay Stars, followed by a season with Imbelco. He then played for the Cedar Rapids Silver Bullets before making it to the NBA with the Sacramento Kings in 1989-1990.

After his NBA stint, Allen played extensively in Europe, starting with Fulgor Libertas Forlì in Italy. He had a brief period with the Albany Patroons before moving to Spain to play for CB Breogán.

He then played for Cholet Basket in France and returned to Spain with CB Girona.

The latter part of his career included stops at Pallacanestro Pavia in Italy, two American teams (Harrisburg Hammerheads and Omaha Racers), and concluded his career with CB Peñas Huesca in Spain in 1996.
