Jason Kidd is a former professional basketball player and current coach in the National Basketball Association. As a player, he won the 2011 NBA Championship while with the Dallas Mavericks. As a coach, he won the 2020 NBA Championship while an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kidd is a 10-time NBA All-Star. When he retired, the Brooklyn Nets also retired Jersey No.5 in his honor. He was later named to the 75th NBA Anniversary Team.

He married his first wife Joumana Kidd in 1997. He filed for divorce in 2007. In 2011, he married Porschla Coleman.
High School and College Career
Kidd attended the Joseph Notre Dame High School and was coached by Frank LaPorte. While in high school, he was named the 1992 National High School Player of the Year. Also in the same year, he was named a McDonald’s All-American. He was also twice named California Mr. Basketball.
He went on to attend the University of California Berkeley. He had received other offers including those from UCLA, the University of Arizona, and Ohio State University, to name a few. While in college, he was named the USBWA National Freshman of the Year in 1993.
He was also named the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1994. The year before that, he was the 1994 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. In 2004, the University honored Kidd by retiring his Jersey Number.
Professional Career
He was drafted into the NBA by the Dallas Mavericks in 1994. He was picked second overall during that year’s draft. In 1995, he was named the NBA Co-Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the 1995 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
The following year in 1996, he was named an NBA All-Star for the first time. He would be named an All-Star again 9 more times throughout his professional career. In 1996, he moved to play for the Phoenix Suns. After a stint with the New Jersey Nets, Kidd returned to the Mavericks and went on to win the 2011 NBA Championship.
His last year as a player in the NBA was spent with the New York Knicks. After his retirement, the Nets retired his Jersey number. Kidd was later named to the 75th NBA Anniversary Team.
Aside from his professional career, Kidd also played for the United States in the Olympic Games and the FIBA Americas Championship.
As a coach, he started coaching for the Brooklyn Nets. He later coached the Milwaukee Bucks. From 2019-2021, he was the assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and he helped the team win the 2020 NBA Championship. In 2021, he returned to the Mavericks as a coach.
Kidd and Knicks General Manager Nico Harrison have been credited with improving the organizational environment of the Knicks.
