Brown was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the third round of the 1985 NBA Draft. But, he began his professional career in Italy with Aurora Desio (1985-1986) before joining the Bulls (1986-1988).

His longest NBA stint came with the Utah Jazz (1988-1993), followed by two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves (1993-1995).

He then alternated between NBA and European teams: Teamsystem Bologna (1995), Philadelphia 76ers (1995-1996), Viola Reggio Calabria (1996-1997), Phoenix Suns (1997), another stint with Reggio (1997-1998), and a return to the Suns (1998).

He concluded his playing career in Spain with Cantabria Lobos (1998), Manresa (2000), and Ourense (2000-2001).

After retiring as a player, Brown transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Las Vegas Slam (2001-2002), Roanoke Dazzle (2002-2004), and Chicago Bulls (2007-2008).

He also served as head coach of the Fayetteville Patriots (2004-2006).
