High School and College Career
He attended Gate City High School in Gate City, Virginia. Later, he played college basketball for Georgetown University and was there from 2018 to 2020 before transferring to Texas Tech in 2020.In 2021, he was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
Professional Career
McClung went undrafted in 2021. Later, he signed with the South Bay Lakers before moving to play for the Chicago Bulls. While with the Bulls, he was also assigned to their NBA G-League affiliate team, the Windy City Bulls.In 2022, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, while also playing for South Bay. He was named the NBA G League Rookie of the Year. In 2022, he started playing for the Delaware Blue Coats and was promoted to the main team - the Philadelphia 76ers in 2023.
In 2023, he won the NBA G League Championship and he also won the NBA G League Next Up Game. In 2023 and again in 2024, he became the NBA Slam Dunk Contest Champion.
In September 2023, he signed with the Orlando Magic but they waived him and he later signed with the Osceola Magic in the G League. In 2024, he was named the NBA G League Most Valuable Player.
