Mark Jackson is a former professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association. In 1988, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and in 1989, he was named an NBA All-Star. Teams he has played for include the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz. He also coached for the Golden State Warriors from 2011 to 2014.

Mark A. Jackson was born on April 1, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York in the United States. He stands 191 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 88 kg.

He used to be married to Dasiree Coleman. He is the father of Mark Jackson, Jr. and Troy Jackson who also played basketball. Because of his Dominican ancestry, he was able to play for the Dominican team in international events.

High School and College Career

He attended the Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in New York and was coached by Patrick Quigley. By the time he was a senior, he was considered one of the best point guards in the country.

He received several college offers but decided to commit to play for St John’s University. One of his teammates in St. John’s was a future NBA player Chris Mullin.

Professional Career

Jackson joined the NBA during the 1987 NBA Draft. He was selected by the New York Knicks in the first round. In his first year with the team, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and was also named the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In 1989, he was named an NBA All-Star. He played for the Knicks through to 1992.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers at the end of the 1991-1992 season. He played with the team through to the 1994 season. Later, he joined the Indiana Pacers. In 1996, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets then in 1997, he was traded back to the Pacers.

In 1997, he became the NBA Assists Leader. Jackson continued to play for the Pacers through to 2000 before moving to the Toronto Raptors. In 2001, he again returned to playing for the Knicks. His final years as a player were spent with the Knicks, the Utah Jazz, and the Houston Rockets. He retired at the end of the 2004 season.

In June 2011, he started coaching the Golden State Warriors. He coached them for four years, from 2011 to 2014.
