Obadiah Richard Toppin Jr. was born on March 4, 1998, in Brooklyn, New York in the United States of America. He stands 206 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 100 kg. Toppin is a power forward and he shoots right-handed.

He is of Italian and Jewish descent on his mother’s side and Barbadian on his father’s side. His father played streetball in Brooklyn and also played in the United States Basketball League for the Brooklyn Kings.

He attended a number of high schools including Heritage in Palm Bay, Florida, Melbourne Central Catholic in Melbourne, Florida, Ossining High School in Ossining, New York, and Mt. Zion Prep in Baltimore, Maryland.

From 2018 to 2020, he played for the University of Dayton.

In 2020, he was named the National College Player of the Year. Also in 2020, he was named to the Consensus First-Team All-American and he was given the Karl Malone Award.

Professional Career

He was a first-round pick during the 2020 NBA Draft, selected by the New York Knicks.

In 2022, he was the NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion. He beat Juan Toscano-Anderson to win the title.

In 2023, he signed with the Indiana Pacers. As of the start of 2024, he still plays for the Pacers.
