High School and College Career

He played varsity basketball for the William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California. He was considered a three-star recruit by the time he was a high school senior. He committed to play college basketball for the University of Colorado.

He spent three years in Colorado before he decided to declare for the NBA in 2014. He gave up his remaining year of college eligibility.

Professional Career

He was drafted into the National Basketball Association by the Detroit Pistons. He signed a rookie contract with the Pistons and he played in 34 games with them in his rookie year. In addition to the main league team, he also played for their NBA G League associate team, the Grand Rapids Driver. In 2016, he signed to play for the Windy City Bulls.

He signed to play with the Brooklyn Nets in December 2016. He remained with the Nets through 2021. In 2020, he suffered a partial ACL tear which effectively ended his season. In August 2021, he was signed by the Washington Wizards.

Dinwiddie was traded by the Wizards to the Dallas Mavericks in February 2022. It was in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis.

In February 2023, he left the Mavericks for the Nets as part of the trade for Kyrie Irving. In 2024, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
