He plays positions of a power forward and a small forward.Kuzma is the son of Karri Kuzma, a high school shot put champion who attended college on a track scholarship. He has a younger half-brother named Andre and a younger half-sister named Briana. Kuzma is biracial. He met his father only once as an infant, but viewed the father of his half-siblings, Larry Smith, as a father figure.
High School and College Career
He initially attended the Swartz Creek Community Schools before transferring to Bentley High School and then to Rise Academy.Some of the colleges that offered him scholarships include Connecticut, Iowa State, Missouri, and Tennessee. He committed to play for the University of Utah. He was with the team from 2014-2017.
In 2017, he was named to the All-NBA Summer League Second Team and the First-team All-Pac-12.
Professional Career
Kuzma was drafted into the NBA during the 2017 NBA Draft. He was a first-round pick and was the 27th overall pick by the Brooklyn Nets. He signed a rookie contract with the team in July 2017. He played his first game as a starter in November of that year.In 2018, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie team. In 2020, he was part of the Los Angeles Lakers team that won the NBA Championships. In December of that year, he signed a contract extension with the Lakers.
He was traded to the Washington Wizards in 2021 in a deal that gave the Lakers Russell Westbrook.
As of 2024, he still plays for the Wizards.
