In 2021, he was the NBA Rebounding Leader. In 2017, Capela was named the Swiss Man of the Year. When he played in the NBA D-League, he was named to the NBA D-League All-Defensive First Team in 2015.

Career

His skill on the court was first noticed while playing with the Swiss team at the European Junior Championships. He then trained in France with INSEP at the Chalon-sur-Saone training center.

Capela started playing for the Elan Chalon team professionally in 2012. He was selected by the Houston Rockets on June 26, 2014. Capela also played with the NBA Development League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

In the 2015 to 2016 Season, he achieved the first double-double of his career. For the following season, Capela recorded a career-high 24 points even after missing some games due to a fractured fibula.

During the 2017 to 2018 Season, Capela was ranked top 1 in field goal percentage in the league and had 16 double-doubles to his name. Since Hakeem Olajuwon, he became the youngest to have at least 23 points and 25 rebounds in a game. Capela was also a leader in blocks and rebounds.

In December 2018, he was signed by the Rockets to a contract extension. In January 2019, he suffered an injury to his thumb but he quickly recovered.

In 2020, he was traded by the Rockets to the Atlanta Hawks. In January 2021, he recorded his first career triple-double. Also, that year he was the NBA Rebounding Leader.

He continues to play for the Hawks as of the 2023-2024 season.

In addition to his professional career, he also plays for the Swiss National Basketball Team.
