Dominique Canty is a retired American basketball player renowned for her contributions to the WNBA and collegiate basketball. Born on March 2, 1977, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the youngest of five siblings and demonstrated her talent early on during her time at Whitney Young High School, where she earned accolades as a Street & Smith All-American and a four-time All-State player.

Dominique took her talents to the University of Alabama, majoring in criminal justice while playing for the Crimson Tide. Throughout her collegiate career, she emerged as an unstoppable force, finishing as a two-time All-American and a four-time All-SEC selection. Her impressive stats included an average of 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. Notably, she became the all-time leading scorer at Alabama, amassing a remarkable 2,294 points, and uniquely ranked among the top five in the school’s history for points, rebounds, steals, and assists.

In the 1999 WNBA Draft, Canty was selected by the Detroit Shock as the 29th overall pick. Her rookie season was impressive, earning her a runner-up position for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. Following her playing debut, she also interned in the Shock's public relations department and ventured into coaching as an assistant for the Chicago State University women's basketball team after the 2001 season.

Dominique continued to showcase her skills internationally, playing for the Polish FIBA team, Wisla Can-Pack, in 2006, before signing with the Chicago Sky in 2007. Over her career, she became known not only for her scoring ability but also for her versatility on the court, leaving a lasting legacy in women's basketball.
