Kara Braxton is a former professional basketball player from the United States, known for her impactful presence as a power forward. Born on February 18, 1983, in Jackson, Michigan, she showcased her talent early in life and continued to develop her skills throughout her career.

Early Life and Education

Kara began her basketball journey at Jackson High School before her family relocated to Oregon. There, she finished her high school career at Westview High School in Beaverton, where she made a name for herself as a promising athlete. She later attended the University of Georgia, where she played under the guidance of coach Andy Landers. Although she faced challenges with discipline that led to her release from the basketball team in 2004, she persevered and graduated in 2005 while also becoming a mother to her son, Jelani.

Professional Career

Despite not playing her senior year, Kara's potential did not go unnoticed, and she was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock. In her rookie season, she made an immediate impact, earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Over the years, her role evolved, and by 2007, she became the starting center for the Shock after the departure of veteran player Ruth Riley.

In addition to her WNBA career, Kara also played overseas, competing in Poland for TS Wisla Can-Pack Krakow, showcasing her skills on an international stage.
