To add injury to insult, the Lakers lost Anthony Davis in the second quarter and he did not return due to a groin complaint.
Chris Paul appeared to have shaken off his injury issues, top scoring for the Suns with 18points, three rebounds and nine assists.
DeAndre Ayton was huge with 14 points and 17 rebounds, while Devin Booker had 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
LeBron James, who has never lost a first round playoffs series in his career with a 14-0 record, was the only Lakers starter to reach double figures with points, with Dennis Schroder going at three-from-13 shooting.
James had 25 points, 12 rebounds and six assists but was a lone hand, especially with Davis only managing six points from 19 minutes before injury intervened.
“These shoulders were built for a reason,” James said, when talking about covering Davis in the rest of the series.
“So, if it takes for me to put some more on top of it, then so be it. Win, lose or draw, I’m ready for the challenge.”
Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Clippers have fought back down 2-0 down with back-to-back road wins to square it against the Dallas Mavericks.
Kawhi Leonard starred with 29 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, with good support from Paul George with 29 points and nine boards.
The Brooklyn Nets went up 3-1 with a 141-126 win over the Boston Celtics, with James Harden scoring 23 points and having 18 assists. Kyrie Irving had 39 points and Kevin Durant scored 42.
The Atlanta Hawks also went up 3-1 with a 113-96 victory over the New York Knicks, led by Trae Young’s 27 points.
