Anthony Davis produced another superb display alongside LeBron James as the Los Angeles Lakers took a 2-1 lead in their NBA playoffs first round series against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday.

The LA Lakers triumphed over the Western Conference’s second seed Phoenix Suns 109-95, putting together a 15-2 burst in the last quarter to run away with victory.

Davis, who had a poor Game 1 in the series, posted up 34 points with 11 rebounds for the Lakers, while James added 21 points, six rebounds and nine assists.

Andre Drummond contributed strongly with 11 boards, while Dennis Schroder had 20 points, three rebounds and four assists. Kyle Kuzma came off the bench to add eight points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

The win puts the Lakers ahead in the series in the first game in LA after honours were even in Arizona.

The Suns fought hard, led by Deandre Ayton with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Chris Paul laboured again with his sore shoulder, managing only seven points, five rebounds and six assists from 27 minutes.

Davis said post-game: “We’re finding our groove at the right time. (LeBron) set that tone for us… He came out with his mindset to attack the basket and get some separation in the third quarter. It was a good win for us. It started with him in that third quarter to separate that lead.”

The Denver Nuggets won 120-115 over the Portland Trail Blazers to lead their series 2-1, with MVP favourite Nikola Jokic starring with 36 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Austin Rivers added 21 points for the Nugs in a tight game, where Damian Lillard had 37 points for the Blazers.

The Milwaukee Bucks moved to a 3-0 lead against the Miami Heat with a 113-84 win on the road with Khris Middleton top scoring with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 17 points, 17 rebounds and five assists for the Bucks who raced to a 12-point quarter-time lead and won every quarter to claim a comprehensive win and lead in their series.
