The excitement and sting of the upcoming national basketball championship are already felt, as the seasonal selection for aspiring high school basketball players has started. Chet Holmgren from Minnehaha Academy, Minneapolis has chosen to play with the Bulldogs in 2021-22.
The 7-foot-1 Holmgren announced his decision on ESPN’s “Sports Center” that he will be playing with the Bulldogs. For sure, his arrival for the team will give Coach Mark Few another national title under his belt, yet the Bulldogs fell short of winning the national title game against Baylor.
Chet Holmgren had won several prestigious high school basketball awards, including the Wootten Award and The Naismith Award. At the same time, his video went viral on YouTube after he dribbles past international basketball superstar, Stephen Curry, at the NBA All-Star’s camp in 2020.
Holmgren is the No. 1 recruit according to the 247 Sport and Rivals, and ESPN 100, as his basketball skills are too advanced to his age. He had a unique skillset, which can play like a guard, had an incredible blocking ability, and he shoots very well beyond the arc. Paul Biancardi, the recruiting director in ESPN shared, “Holmgren’s 3-point shooting ability might be a mismatch to his physical measurement, and however, we viewed him to become a world-class shot blocker with extinct to prevent the opposing team from scoring and to protect the rim.”
Since 2003, 247 Sports had been known to recruit potential basketball players that could make it big in the industry, such as LeBron James, Greg Oden, and RJ Barrett.
