Kerr said that, “Dragic has not proved anything so far. He is simply an attractive prospect. The team has high expectations from him. We have not guaranteed him anything and if he fails to prove somebody else would do it”

Kerr also added “Goran has to come and has to compete for a backup spot behind Steve. Hopefully he’ll learn and develop behind Steve and potentially be our starter someday. We’ll see if that happens. It’s difficult adding a guy who can fill the role of point guard and we feel he has an excellent chance at doing that and are thrilled to have gotten him.”

Draft Details

Dragic was the 45th overall pick. However amongst the point guards in the draft the Suns regard him second to Derrick Rose who was the No. 1 pick. Before the draft Dragic was brought to Phoenix by the Suns for a workout. Kerr, who said that Dragic is a competitive and great kid made it public that Dragic desired to play for the Suns and hence he did not workout for any other NBA team. However, the NBA teams except the Suns did not show any interest in Dragic. The reason was that his Spanish contract did not permit a buyout till the next summer.
