The Cleveland Guardians are a storied team in Major League Baseball, representing the vibrant city of Cleveland, Ohio. Known for their passionate fan base and rich history, the Guardians compete in the American League (AL) Central division. Since 1994, they have called Progressive Field their home, where fans gather to support their team in thrilling matchups.

History

The franchise's journey began back in 1894 as the Grand Rapids Rustlers in the Western League. The team moved to Cleveland in 1900 and became the Cleveland Lake Shores. As the league evolved into what is now known as the American League, the team was rebranded multiple times. Initially known as the Cleveland Bluebirds, they later adopted the nickname Cleveland Naps in 1903, paying homage to team captain Nap Lajoie.

After Lajoie's departure, the franchise transitioned to the name Cleveland Indians, a title that would remain for over a century. This name was a nod to the legacy of Louis Sockalexis, a Native American player who played for the earlier team, the Cleveland Spiders. However, in light of growing concerns regarding the use of Native American imagery, the team officially became the Cleveland Guardians following the 2021 season.

Stadium

Progressive Field serves as the battleground for the Guardians, offering fans an intimate and exhilarating experience. Opened in 1994, the stadium boasts modern amenities while retaining a classic baseball atmosphere. With its strategic location near downtown Cleveland, it has become a central hub for baseball enthusiasts and a site for numerous memorable moments.

Honours

Throughout their extensive history, the Guardians have achieved significant milestones, including 10 Central division titles, 6 American League pennants, and 2 World Series championships in 1920 and 1948. Notably, their championship drought since 1948 is the longest in Major League Baseball, adding to the rich narrative of the franchise. In 2017, the team made headlines by securing a record-setting 22 consecutive wins, showcasing their competitive spirit and resilience.

In addition to their achievements, the Guardians are known for their engaging mascot, Slider, who adds an element of fun and entertainment to the game day experience. With their distinctive colors of deep blue (#00385D) and vibrant red (#E50022), the Guardians continue to symbolize the heart and soul of Cleveland baseball.
