Philippines national baseball team
Philippines national baseball team is governed by the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association and is currently ranked 22nd in the IBAF world rankings. The team is a member of the BFA.
The team is a regular competitor in the Asian Baseball Championships and won the inaugural tournament in 1954, however finished 4th in most of the remaining times they participated.
Philippines’ last appearance in the Asian Baseball Championship was in 1974, after which the team has been incompetent against leading Asian clubs like Chinese Taipei, Japan and Korea.
In 2006, the team competed in the Intercontinental Cup and the Asian Games where they finished 8th and 6th respectively. Philippines however won the gold medal in 2005 at the Southeast Asian Games.
The Philippines national baseball team includes many famous players from the MLB like Benny Agbayani of the New York Mets, Chris Aguila of the Florida Marlins, Bobby Balcena of the Cincinnati Reds and Bobby Chouinard of Oakland Athletics.
